Kindergarten FAQs

Prince George County Public Schools is currently accepting registrations for kindergarten. All families can call their child's school to schedule a kindergarten registration appointment or complete the registration requirements.

Here are some frequently asked questions to help guide families through the registration process with our division:

  • Please call the Prince George School Board Office at (804)-733-2700, and our team will assist in answering your questions. You may also use our school locator map by clicking HERE and enter your address into the interactive map to see your school assignment, or a listing of elementary school assignments by street name by clicking HERE.

  • Registration forms are available on the division's website by visiting the Student Registration portal. However, families will still need to complete the registration process by making an appointment at their child's school.

  • Yes, if you are comfortable allowing your child to participate in the pre-kindergarten screen process.

  • We ask families to bring the following documents with them to their appointment:

    • Their child's certified original birth certificate
    • Parent/guardian's photo identification (ID) card
    • Record of immunizations
    • School Physical Entrance Health form 
    • One of the following proofs of residency:
      • Lease or rental agreement with current address and parent name
      • Copy of deed with current address and parent name
      • Copy of lease or other documentation for property at Fort Lee
  • Kindergarten is a full-day program offered at all of the division's elementary schools. All children must be five-years-old before September 30 to attend kindergarten.

  • Families can do the following to ensure their children are ready to discover a love for learning once they begin kindergarten:

    • Practice counting to 10
    • Practice writing and saying letters in the alphabet
    • Practice writing your child's name
    • Practice basic colors and shapes
