Good afternoon, Prince George Families,

I hope this message finds you well as we begin another exciting year of learning and success here in Prince George County. It has been wonderful meeting our students and families during orientation last week and during these opening days, and I look forward to connecting with you throughout the school year.

I'm writing to share a few updates following today's release of pass rates for Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) assessments from the 2025-26 School Year. Through thoughtful, engaging instruction and support in our classrooms across our district, Prince George County students continue to show strong academic performance, with results on state-standardized assessments exceeding the state average in several testing categories. According to data from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), results from the 2025–26 school year show:

• PGCPS’ overall history/social studies performance (71.3%) is above the state average (69.6%).
• PGCPS’ overall mathematics performance (74.47%) is above the state average (72.91%).
• PGCPS’ overall reading performance (75.12%) is above the state average (74.45%).

A further look at our division's mathematics performance shows that students in grades 3 through 8 outperformed the statewide average of 69%, achieving a 70.89% pass rate locally. Additionally, PGCPS students taking an end-of-course (EOC) mathematics assessment during the 2025-26 School Year surpassed the statewide average by over four percent, with 89% of students passing an Algebra I, Algebra II, or Geometry SOL assessment in Prince George County.

Alongside these results, our division continues to see positive outcomes in the areas of reading thanks to the recent expansion of the Virginia Literacy Act, which promotes strong literacy skills through classroom instruction, family support, and community outreach. Last school year, the initiative expanded to include students in grades 4 through 8, allowing more students to be served by this program in our schools. 

Overall, this data reinforces the quality of teaching our students receive every day and serves as a guidepost for our teachers and building leaders as they develop lesson plans and materials throughout the school year.

It is important to note that division pass-rate data is one of several components in the VDOE's School Performance and Support Framework (SPSF). The SPSF evaluates Virginia's elementary and secondary schools across multiple components, specifically mastery, growth (for elementary and middle schools), readiness, and graduation (for high schools), to determine what performance category a school falls under during a given academic year.

The VDOE continues its work evaluating divisions across the Commonwealth as part of the SPSF, culminating in the announcement of performance category designations for individual schools later in the fall. Once that information is available, I look forward to writing to you with an update and further details on this year's SPSF outcomes.
