Prince George County Public Schools Superintendent Search Information

Overview:

On Monday, May 13, 2024, the Prince George County School Board announced that it will begin the process of hiring a new superintendent during their regular business meeting. At that time, the Prince George County School Board announced that they will partner with the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) throughout the process, with the organization providing resources and support to the Board.

Community Engagement:
  • Superintendent Search Survey (Open May 14-30, 2024)
    • As part of the search process, the Board and the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA), partnered to create a community survey to allow stakeholders the opportunity to share their thoughts regarding qualifications they’d like to see in the division’s next superintendent.
    • An online survey and paper versions were made available at all district schools and the Prince George School Board Office
    • The survey was open to all Prince George residents and district staff, and it was distributed via the district's website, social media, SchoolMessenger, internal email messaging, and further marketed through the local news
    • Over 700 responses were recorded during the survey period, from May 14-30

  • Public Hearing (June 3, 2024)
    • The Prince George County School Board hosted a public hearing on June 3, 2024 at the Prince George County Administration Building at 6 p.m.
    • The board was able to hear public comment from attendees and receive survey result outcomes from the VSBA's representatives
    • The public hearing was advertised in the local newspaper, per meeting notice requirements, on the district website, and as part of the marketing of the Superintendent Search Survey (date included on fliers, in emails, phone calls, etc.)

  • On July 9, 2024, the Prince George County School Board conducted a special business meeting where the body reviewed the applicants for Division Superintendent. An overview of the applicants is as follows:

  • On Monday, September 9, 2024, the Prince George County School Board appointed Dr. Douglas Wayne Lyle, Jr. to serve as Prince George County Public Schools' division superintendent effective Tuesday, September 10, 2024 during their regular business meeting. This information was made available on the district’s website and communicated to the media, via SchoolMessenger/email to families and staff, and via social media. This information is viewable HERE.

  • The Superintendent Search process formally ended on Monday, September 9, 2024, with the announcement by the Prince George County School Board of the selection of Dr. Douglas Wayne Lyle, Jr. to serve as Prince George County Public Schools' division superintendent effective Tuesday, September 10, 2024.
