L.L. Beazley Elementary Students Learn About Sustainability Through Christmas Ornament Crafts Project

December 5, 2023

It's beginning to look like Christmas all across Prince George County, and, thanks to the crafts of L.L. Beazley Elementary School first graders, the county administration building's main foyer has been given a festive makeover for the season.

On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, dozens of Beazley Lions made their way to the Prince George County Administration Building with their teachers to place handmade ornaments on a Christmas tree generously donated by The Woman's Club of Prince George County. One by one, each student placed the ornament they crafted during class on the tree with the help of the club's members.

Each of the items made by the first-graders was comprised of upcycled and repurposed materials, such as popsicle sticks, construction paper, glittering rhinestones, string, and more. The students were able to use their artistic abilities to craft dozens of unique pieces that now have a new home in the county administration building for hundreds of people to see during the holiday season.

The event, a tradition between the county, local schools, and The Woman's Club of Prince George County for years, ties into Virginia Science Standards of Learning (SOL) Objective 1.8, highlighting the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling and how these actions help conserve natural resources.

Before departing, The Woman's Club led the students in song, with "Jingle Bells" and other holiday tunes sung by the first-graders and their teachers.

The tree and ornaments will be displayed at the Prince George County Administration Building throughout Christmas.
