Superintendent's Message to the Community Following Texas Tragedy

May 25, 2022

Good evening Prince George Families,

I am deeply saddened by the tragedy carried out at a Texas elementary school Tuesday, claiming the lives of innocent children and adults. We offer our thoughts, condolences, and prayers as their community processes this senseless tragedy.

Keeping our children, faculty, and staff safe while they are at school is our top priority, and whenever these types of incidents occur, we take a close look at our safety procedures to ensure we are doing everything we can to foster safe and secure learning environments for our school community.

The district's relationship with the Prince George County Police Department is highlighted by its strength, collaboration, and continuous communication. As we head into our Memorial Day break and upon our return, you may see increased police presence at our campuses, and we ask that you not be alarmed by this increased visibility. This presence will continue through the end of the school year. We appreciate our school resource officers and local police officers for all they do to keep everyone safe in our buildings.

We review our emergency plans regularly and make updates as needed alongside school and district staff.

Thank you, and please keep the families and communities of Uvalde, Texas, in your prayers.

Lisa Pennycuff, Ed.D
