Prince George School Board Names Local Organizations to VSBA's Business Honor Roll

May 2, 2022

During their April 25, 2022, meeting, the Prince George School Board recognized a trio of local organizations for their support of Prince George County Public Schools by naming them to the Virginia School Boards Association Business Honor Roll. In its fourth year, the program gives school divisions a way to say "thank you" to local businesses and organizations and recognize their valuable contributions to the schools.

The Prince George School Board named the following organizations to the VSBA Business Honor Roll:

  • Unity Baptist Church
  • James River Junior Woman's Club
  • Rams Petroleum

These organizations have played pivotal roles in supporting Prince George County Public Schools and our school community. Unity Baptist Church and the James River Junior Woman's Club have been instrumental in providing donations for various school supply drives and other community initiatives benefitting the children of Prince George.

Rams Petroleum, owners of Rams Cafe and gas station along South Crater Road near Interstate 95 & Exit 45, have also been great partners to our division and community. Through their pump giveback program, the retailer selected a pair of gas pumps, and a portion of their proceeds would be donated to support PGCPS programs. In January, the business visited Prince George High School to make its first donation as part of the program, a $2,500 contribution to Prince George Athletics.

Business Honor Roll recipientsTricia Carden, president of the James River Junior Woman's Club, joins the Prince George School Board as her organization is named to the VSBA's Business Honor Roll on April 25. Unity Baptist Church & Rams Petroleum were also recognized during the meeting.

As noted by the VSBA, "Businesses large and small, corporate-owned or family-run, play a key role in supporting our communities and local schools. They contribute to our school divisions in many ways, including helping schools with in-kind or financial contributions, donating to scholarship programs, supporting extracurricular activities, offering internship opportunities, volunteering in the schools, and sponsoring field trips."

Later this year, VSBA will publish the Business Honor Roll in the association newsletter and issue a news release about those honored through this program.

In 2021, Prince George County Public Schools and the Prince George School Board named the following businesses and organizations to the VSBA Business Honor Roll:

  • Loyalty Automotive
  • Oakland Baptist Church
  • Unity Baptist Church
