William A. Walton Elementary School received a special donation from convenience store chain 7-Eleven as they celebrated the grand opening of their newest location in Prince George County.
On Tuesday, November 16, staff from Walton Elementary attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the retailer's new location at 4525 County Drive near Rives Road. During the ceremony, Walton Elementary School principal Chrystal Barnwell joined the store's leadership as she was presented with a check for $711 as part of their Project-A-Game initiative.
7-Eleven created the Project-A-Game initiative to help provide meaningful youth development opportunities through education and play to help children establish a strong foundation that supports their future success. Company franchisees and corporate store leaders contribute to youth development in their communities by applying for grants, jointly funded by local franchisees and 7‑Eleven, to support local schools, youth sports organizations, law enforcement agencies, and community organizations.
Since the Project-A-Game initiative's inception, 7‑Eleven and its franchisees have awarded more than 4,800 grants, representing a community investment of more than $3 million. These grants have helped support math and science projects, tutoring programs, school supplies, and other needs to ensure children have the resources and inspiration they need to stay in school.
The funds donated to Walton Elementary will be used to benefit the school's music department.
"We are thankful for this opportunity to expand the resources of our music department here at Walton Elementary School," William A. Walton Elementary School Principal Chrystal Barnwell said. "We look forward to continuing our partnership with 7-Eleven."
